I have a Manhattan hi-speed USB external connection interface I used thousands of time.
Recently, I connected a 2.5 WD to it and started having the non-spinning problem. I think (strongly hope) that the fuses are gone.
Would someone be so kind to help me in finding the fuse(s) so I can give it a try?

On 2.5" drives I almost never assume it's blown fuses. Not that it isn't possible, but given that laptops run on a battery it's very uncommon. That's more of a desktop drive issue. As mentioned the problem is most likely either stuck heads, bad heads (some drives test heads before spin up), or blown motor controller.

Hey thank you to all you guys for answering me back.

Unfortunately, I didn't connect this drive to a laptop. I've connected it to an external test interface from manhattan (http://www.amazon.com/Manhattan-Hi-Spee ... B002TRD3FQ).
After a long troubleshooting session on a 2.5 hdd with damaged sectors, I started to think that the manhattan interface wasn't working well and swaped it with another one, so I connected a hdd I know that was good and I ended up having two broken hdd (no spinning motor). This is weird because I have used this manhattan SATA-2-USB many times without problems...

Now, connecting the WD to the power: no tick, no sound at all...

I think I have a dead hdd as also R77 looks good. Worthed trying.

I need data on that hdd but I'm not that desperate (for now): I'd like to practice... In my defense I'd say that I was convinced I had a hdd image...

@anemicsun, how can you be sure that both drives are dead if you haven't tried them elsewhere? If the adapter does not power up either drive, then ISTM that the logical conclusion would be that the adapter may be dead. Whether it is killing your drives is yet to be determined. Or am I misunderstanding you?

I have two external SATA-2-USB adaptor. However, I have also tried swapping the HDD(s) into a portable without success.
Some very very bad must have happened to the PCB of both hdds. Most probably, a power surge.

Are these adapters different? If so, do both adapters have 4-pin power supplies? Be aware that the pinouts for these mini-DIN PSUs is not standard, so if you have used the wrong PSU, then this may explain the damage. The pinout diagram should be on the label.

The PSU appears to be a 12V/2A unit with a barrel plug, not mini-DIN.

In che senso senza successo?
Spiegati meglio, cioè i piatti continuano a non ruotare anche se l'hdd è montato all'interno del portatile (quindi alcun suono che proviene dal hdd) ?
Oppure intendi dire che quando lo usi all'interno del portatile si sentono almeno i piatti che ruotano ma che l'hdd non viene comunque identificato dal bios?
