Hi all!

A few days ago my harddrive no longer appeared anywhere on windows and is not detectable in the bios either. The specifications are as follows:

Seagate Barracuda 2000GB
SN: W240ARA9
MODEL: ST2000DM001
PN: 9YN164-302
FW: CC4C
DATE: 12357
SITE: SU

Summary of problem:

Drive spins up normally on booting
Drive not recognised by the bios.
Drive is not shown in Windows 7 or in the device list of Ubuntu on multiple computers.
Drive is not seen by MHDD on a bootable usb.

Any help would be greatly appreciated as I am unsure what to proceed with next. I would be willing to pay for a professional to do this however I am in Australia and although the data is worthwhile to me, it probably isn't worth more than a couple hundred dollars, so I wanted to exhaust all other options first.

As has been mentioned on these forums, I have not tried to use a USB connection yet as I am unsure of how to exactly do this and so if someone had a guide to do this procedure that would be lovely. Replacing the PCB board was also mentioned several times however it seemed that was the solution if the HDD didn't spin at all.

Thanks for all your help,
Paul.

At this stage recovery chances are high if the drive spins up normally and stays spinning.
I wouldn't recommend any DIY attempts on this model of drive if data is important. They can become very expensive and almost impossible to recover quickly if you start playing around with them.

If it doesn't detect over SATA, then USB won't either.

Won't change anything.

I only meant that to question whether he would be notified of this thread, I don't know how active he is in the forums and I'm unable to message him directly.

I have the same problem with Seagate ST2000DM001

HaQue could you PM me as well. I have a similar situation but have been though a pcb and chip swap and a platter transplant by a pro already. I receive the drive back next week and was advised that the drive spins but is not detected by BIOS thus nothing is recoverable. I am looking for some ideas of my next steps. My important data = daughters' baby thru 4 years pictures. I would greatly appreciate any assistance.

If it is the same situation (drive was originally spinning but not detected) it's rather worrying that the "pro" performed a platter swap :-(

It was a little different. Board received over voltage and blew the board. No spin.
The board was swapped out and chip data transferred with a comprable board via HDD-Parts. No luck. Then, another pcb swap with an exact board and the chip physically transferred. No spin. Then, platter swap. Drive spins now but not recognized by BIOS. I am hoping that slaving the drive and running SeaTools or something else will give me an opportunity to grab jpg data.
