Hi dick,How did you wrote MOD02 into the WD20NMVW Flash ROM? I used WDMarvel tool to write the edited version of MOD02 back to the flash ROM but after reading the MOD02 again to see if the changes were OK surprisingly NO changes whatsoever everything back to the original, So confusing!
I used Wdr and I think it was version 5.3

Thanks Dick and Spildit for your prompt respond, I just have WDR Demo since the full version doesn't exist anymore! So I got WDmMarvel 9.0 registered and I tried to use its auto "slow reading" feature and then I tried to manually change MOD02 on the drive but none of them worked even though it didn't show any error in the process. I tried hddsupertool as well the MOD32 repair writing process works but again when I try to write back the patched MOD02 back into the drive shows check-sum error and unsuccessful (this time I tried it with both SATA and its original USB PCB). I haven't tried MHDD script but my guess is, it would be the same result since it is VSC and ATA command too. I think the SA is badly corrupted so the module can't be written back to it.Thanks again

hope you did't mean it writing mod02 to flash, it is has nothing to do with flash rom rather it is stored in SA.

I did the exact same procedure with MDMarvel as it mentioned above and unfortunately it didn't work. I tried it on another WD drive and it worked fine so I think something securely wrong with MOD2 inside the SA reserved sectors. Both drives had head replacement and bad sectors but not the same result :| Thanks for all the helps and I will post again if I can come up with an idea to fix it.

Hi jermy, the problem is speed of cloning NOT the drive doesn't initialize, speed is very low. Frankly I did the hot swap before with the same result! Thanks anyway

let me get it straight, what you were saying is, there is no physical problems on the drive, just logical (slow responding)

so, maybe, the tools you're using isn't good enough, solution: try something like PC3K
or maybe, the problem is bad sector(s) on that location (mod 02 & 32) solution: change the location of those mods
or maybe there is really bad/slow sectors on the drive or weak/bad heads

Yes I think you are right Jermy, apparently it has to be weak heads since even with PC3K the speed is very low. Seems like platter condition degrades the heads eventhough with a new set of heads it ends up with the same result

Yes it runs fast first and it will drastically slow down almost right after.
