Hi!
I have a problem with my Seagate Barracuda Drive. Specs:

  • Model ST3000DM001
  • PN: 9YN166-302
  • FW: CC4C
  • Date: 12293

This morgen, I got to my PC (running windows 7 Pro), and the HDD LED was shining all the time. The pc didn't react.
I resettet it, but it was some kind of slow (slow boot screen, etc...). It bootet windows up, but the HDD wasn't recog-
nized by the system. It was like it wasn't connect to the mainboard.

I tried to connect it over an SATA-USB adapter, but with no success. The activity led of the adapter was on too all the
time. I listend to the drive acoustics, but I sounded correct. Do clickering or unusual sound.

What can I do to get back access. Help would be much eppreciated!

it seems you have used english translation, anyway did you mean that drive is spinning fine without any abnormal clicking or spin down ??

if yes you need a ttl adapter to diagnose it further, provide terminal log ere hso someone can guide you to find out the problem.

since it is DM series, i would suggest to send to a DR company.

good luck.

First of all: Thanks very much for your answer. I'm feeling a little bit lost with my problem.

No. That was my german HDD englisch. I'm sorry for that. :?

I meant that when it starts, it sounds like I'm expecting a HDD to sound... Nothing abnormal.

What's special about DM series? Can you recommend a company?

well, seagate is facing a class action law suit over its 3TB drives failure rate, read here :
http://www.pcworld.com/article/3028981/ ... rates.html

DM series are very complicated when it has physical problem, by your description it seems that you drive has some Firmware, Bad Sector problem, could be heads also, but needs to be diagnosed first.

yes the ttl adapter is correct as per your link, this is what you need. i have seem couple of German member here on this forum, atleast i know that they are equipped with proper tools. Wait a while someone who know any German reputable member should recommend you.

The fact that you're not hearing any abnormal sounds, is very encouraging.

You *might* be lucky and it's just a fw related issue, otherwise... well, you don't want to know.

As MindMergepk said, DM series are a PITA and many pros find them difficult to recover.

Their overall quality is crap, and I'm being generous here.

I wouldn't try anything DIY on a Seagate ST3000DM001. These drives are tricky to recover.

We are in Augsburg, Bayern.
We pickup in Germany and evalutate your drive for free.
Feel free to contact us if you would like.

OK. I have now a serial Adapter. I think, I will give one try a chance that the pro's here can say wheter
I should keep trying myself or I should send in the drive direktly.

So is there "a way to do" or a tutorial? Especially for Seagate drives? I want to run the drive as short
as possible...

thanks in advance!

***

If one is already faced with problems on a drive, its unlogically to ill-treat it
with a USB adapter

each action (potter around) with a defect drive might cause further data loss.

***

Ok. Ihr hab mich überzeugt. Ich schaue mich mal nach Datenrettungsdiensten um...
Wie ärgerlich, dass man sich nicht an der Sammelklage in den USA gegen Seagate
beteiligen kann :(
