HDD Model : ST9500423AS
PCB : 100619769 Rev. A

Problem: No Spin , No Strange Sound such as motor struck

in PCB: One of the capacitor shorted and Removed then no short anywhere with ground

i m getting voltage near TVS ~2.8V as mentioned in photo ( PCB shown here is not original PCB)

Red square marked may be inductor, Input ~5V and Output only ~2.8V

Experts pls advice let me remove that and bridge to get ~5V ?

Sorry for my poor description

Note: No Donor PCB, it contains ~2GB Photos only

I'm no expert but I would reflow the solder to the inductor and measure its resistance. I would also determine whether there is continuity between the inductor and the shorted component.

Hello Mr.fzabkar,

Answer to the questions

1. inductor Resistence : 143
2. Yes, there is continuity between the inductor and the shorted component.

ISTM that the shorted component may have been a bypass capacitor for the motor controller's 5V supply. The inductor would then have been stressed by the short circuit. I would be tempted to flow a blob of solder over it, but first I would like to confirm whether the output end of the inductor does in fact connect to the 5V supply pins of the switchmode regulator ICs.

The top left corner of the PCB has a small regulator IC. There is another regulator to the right of the serial flash memory. Can you tell me the markings on these ICs? I propose to identify the Vcc pins of these ICs and then confirm that they connect to the inductor. This will prove that the component is indeed in series with the 5V supply. I believe that the inductor and the two adjacent capacitors constitute a low pass LC filter.

I suspect that the circuit looks like this:

Code:
          inductor
            ___
+5V o--+----UUU----+---+--o  filtered +5V
       |           |   |
       | TVS       |   |  filter
SATA   - diode    --- --- capacitors
       ^          --- ---
       |           |   |
Gnd o--+-----------+---+--o

I tried my Best for your question and can't read the chip numbers

Green lines are direct connections

Thanks, I'm now convinced that my diagram is correct. I would try flowing a blob of solder over the inductor. If you can backup the ROM beforehand, then that would be advisable.

Thx Mr fzabkar,

Now the drive spin and detected in windows but take too much time but disk can't initialized (Shows correct Size)

Terminal Log

Quote:
EarlySpinup Enabled
Rst 0x10M
(P) SATA Reset

RAW OFF
PASS
SIM Error 3005
RW Error
[PORFAIL:MC.disabled]

ASCII Diag mode

Then Tried to read SYSFiles
Result
Quote:
Got F3 T>r01b

DiagError 0000000E

The same result for any sysfile from copy 0 but i can read any sysfile from copy 1
So i written sysfiles 1B, 35, 28, 29, 133 from copy 1 to copy 0 without any errors

After Power on reset again i can't read any sysfile from copy 0

i think this model has no 17a since both copy return
Quote:

DiagError 00000024
F3 T>r17a,3,1

DiagError 00000024

ctrl+X returns with some errors
