Trying to recover data from a WD5000BMVV with no luck. It'll never actually mount properly on the computer. In ubuntu, it shows in disk utility but nothing can be done with it. In other applications, it never shows up.

When it first spins up it beeps 3-4 times. Seems to me like a PCB issue.

So I'd like to get your opinion at this point. I'm familiar with data recovery on a software level but replacing PCBs is uncharted territory.

Looks like I can either solder onto the current PCB to try to hook up to SATA connections or I can buy the PCB 2060-771817-001

What's involved with replacing the PCB?

if drive spins up and beeps, it can be heads/media damage and changing pcb will not help. In fact pcb fault on these WD drive is very very rare.

"beeping" sounds from a WD5000BMVV its 99,9% not related to PCB.
If data has value, stop connecting the drive and seek pro assistance.
at every "beep" there is a risk that a part of or all your data get destroyed.
