Hi All,

I have a seagate HDD (ST3500418AS, Firmware : CC44). HDD was OK in my desktop but there was some problem in desktop SMPS so I remove it from desktop and connect externally with other desktop for copying some important data from it with support of SATA to USB converter. When I connected it with converter's power supply, HDD PCB burn-out. I found some solution on google search which I have fallowed but nothing worked.

1. Replace the PCB: My another PC has same HDD(PCB no., model no. & firmware are same only manufacturing date is different) so I replaced the controller card with donor HDD controller Card.

result: on the start up there are some clicking sound after that Controller is detected in PC BIOS but HDD capacity shows 0 Byte

2. Keep the original Firmware: I googled again and found on this website that donor HDD controller firmware chip should be replaced with original HDD controller firmware chip. So I have done the same .

Result: Plotter not spinning. (chip manufacturer was not same, is this issue?)

3. I replace back the firmware chip

Result : Donor HDD working good but firmware chip of original HDD burn-out(I have lost the original Firmware chip ST 25P0VP).

This HDD has some important data. I am very upset. I want to recover my data. Kindly help me. I will be very grateful for your kind support.

Vijay :(

Hello,

If I understand correctly, you have lost the rom chip from the defective HDD.
Now, to rebuild the info in it, you will need to send it to some reputable DR firm.
Search for Amarbir in the forum, he is in India also.

Thanks for your reply. As I have mentioned that firmware chip has been lost. Just I want to know, is there any hope to recover my data?

Thanks

Yes, there is, but only with an experienced place ( not a regular computer shop ) and it probably will not be cheap.

Many thanks for your quick response. Just I need your expert opinion. Should I send the HDD to Seagate data recovery lab Netherlands or local professional(Like you have suggested above) can do that easily. I want to send it to that lab which has highest possibilities for recovery. Can anybody suggest any lab world wide like that.

any help would be appreciate.

Thanks in advance,

Vijay

well i don't blame google but you can see doing something just because it is mentioned somewhere on internet doesn't mean it will solve the problem.

you have definitely turn a simple recovery into complex one.
Your drive is F3 Arch, which means messing with ROM chip is quite serious problem. If what you have mentioned is correct that ROM chip is gone, than local professional is not an option for you.

are you willing to pay $$$$ for such case ?

Dimitry ,
Have You Ever Got Any Work From India Before ? . No One Here Pays The Money Europians And Americans Demand "Might Be 1 Fool In a Million " .

PS : Mostly i See That When a Person From a Particular Country Posts I Am Not Sure About Others But i Do Recommend a Guy From The Same Country [ So You Folks Do Not Know About Any DR Guy From India Whom You Can Recommend a Case ] .I Am Not Talking About Myself As I Do Not Care if i Get a Referal From HDDguru Or Not But i Am a Bit Surprised .And Dimitry This PS Section is Specially Not Targeting You But i Take Offence And Strong Objection To This Of Every Member i Know When ever Anyone From India Posts .

PS2 : Vijay Find a DR Guy Close To You And Try Giving Him Your Case ,Where Have You Vanished This ROM .Stop Reading Too Many DIY Useless Stuff When Its Important DATA .

Many thanks to all of you for your valuable posts.

hello Amarbir, whatever I have done with HDD are mentioned in the my first post after that I have not touched the HDD.

Some people says without original firmware, recovery is not possible.
All of you are experts in this field. What are your opinion?

Thanks & regards
Vijay

Can you rebuild ROM on F3 arch ?

I don't see any problem with northwind stating that "We can do it".

Can you recommend someone on your country that can do it as well ?

If not there is no point in your comment.

Well,
Time And again When You Come And Step On My Tail "Calling Us Non Professional And what Not " I Have Been Keeping Quite "Though I Should Have Given You a Befitting Reply " . Well Can You Do It "I Am Asking You " . If Your Reply is Yes Then I Can Too And If Your Answer Is No Then I Cannot Too Lol ,You Know Why Its Like This "The Reason Is That People Like You Have a Habit Of Leaving a Trail Wherever They Go Boasting About Thier Knowledge " .If I Have To Undertake This Task I Can And Will 100% Complete It In Flying Colours " Whats So Great About It ,Its Just a Bunch Of Code and Module Segments That Can Be Researched And Done Away With " .You Are A Guy Who Does Virtually Noting Just Sitting On All Forums Gathering Knowledge And Dumping It Into Your Forums And Brain ,You Keep Talking About Tools I Have This I Have That "But Since 1 Year When i Started Pro Data Recovery " I Seems To Be Seeing You Playing Around With Useless /Stupid/Idiotic Software Tools And Bragging About The Defunct HRT You Have everywhere .You Have No Sense Of even Estimating Weather The Guy You Are Trying To Post To Or Reply Can Actually Do The Needful Of Not But You Bombard The Poor Fellows With All Your Collected/Leached Knowledge ,You Occasionally Make Fun Of Other New Or Old DR Guys Which Is Definitely Not Appreciated Atleast By Me And you Do It again And Again. If HDDguru Was Run By Me I Would Have Given You a Warning Long Time Back And Thrown You Out Of Here .

PS : I do Not Like You Period And You Do Not Like Me [ So Stop Crossing My Way And I Do The Same For You ] .You Stop Bothering About How Knowledgeable Others Are ,You Really Want To See How Much Knowledge You Had Start Reading All Your Post From Day One You Stepped On HDDguru " You Will Come To Know Approx 90%+ Of your Knowledge Is Accquired From These DR Guys Who You Like To Tease And Abuse " ,Why Dont You Post a Few Pictures of Your Workplace So That We Can See How Professional You Are .

Amarbir,

I am sorry you took my post the wrong way.
If you are able to recover F3 with missing ROM, then I strongly suggest the OP to send the drive to you.
I have absolutely nothing against you or your work or the progress you're making. And I have no intention on taking jobs from others.

Having said that, I'm sorry again and OP should send the drive to you.

Amarbir... I would highly reccommend a book to you. It is called Nonviolent Communication by Marshall Rosenberg. Seriously. No joke!
If you have personal issues with whomever please settle them privately.

Seems like they are very experience people who can recover data from Seagate F3 without original ROM.
