Previously, the common way to shield broken heads is by putting the whole LBA of the head into non-resident G-list, and in order to shield the broken heads, several simple methods are invented, such as adding to the D-list or adjusting RAP. But actually this way has little effect because the shielded head hasn’t been cut and still works, and those methods all have drawbacks and will take a lot of time and manpower.

So this year, MRT Lab put forward the function of Seagate F3 shielding head, which can disable broken heads of Seagate, including Head 0, and currently MRT tools are the only tools that support shielding head of Seagate F3, which is the leading technology in data recovery field.

We have done deep research in Seagate firmware and servo system, finally finding a real head-cutting technique for Seagate F3. The technique makes it possible to cut random head, cut zero head and redefine main head. Head can be cut whether the HDD is ready or not (such as caused by its damaged zero head), after which we define head one as main head. There is no need to adjust the adaptive parameter after the head being cut. So it is easy to operate.

For more information, please go to viewtopic.php?f=28&t=33791 and you can see the video manual to learn the feature of Seagate disks, the head shielding principle and the operation steps, and I am sure it will be a great helper for those who are in Disk Repair field.

Hello, shield head 0 is only available for Seagate 7200.12 series, and we will support this function in more other Seagate models in our next software upgrade, thanks for your question.
