Hello all,

It appears that I just lost all of the data off of my source drive while attempting to clone it to an identical 2TB drive using HDClone 6. I'm 100% positive that I selected Drive D (my data drive) as the source and Drive E as the destination drive. In addition, the Win 7 computer that I did the cloning on would not boot afterwards. The boot drive is a 256GB SSD which appears to still have all of the files on it when I connected it to another PC. I suspect there's an issue with the boot sector since the PC it came out of no longer will boot.

My much bigger issue is my lost data!. I've connected both drives (D & E) to another PC, but the only folder shown was the "System Volume Information" folder. I also tried to view the data using WinHex and none of my folders are there.

BTW - the cloning operation seemed to complete normally. The only input required after it was finished was a prompt regarding wanting to either manually or automatically take care of something (sector alignment possibly, not sure). I chose to automatically do this.

Has anyone ever experienced this type of data loss while trying to clone a drive? Is there any chance of getting the data back?

try to use R-studio to check if it can find any your data.

Thanks for the suggestion DrHDD. I'm currently using Data Recovery 3 to try and retrieve my files. It's a slow process, but is looking promising.

I suspect that there has been some change to the boot parameters rather than the boot sector. I don't advise changing anything, but BCDEdit will probably show you where the problem lies.

Still working on the data recovery. Switched to R-Studio. Hoping for better results. I was able to fix the booting problem. Evidently the HDClone 6 program made my drive C inactive for some reason. Was able to fix the boot issue with the Windows recovery disk.

BTW, both drives that were corrupted during the cloning seem to have the same data on them - at least according to Data Rescue. This makes me think that the cloning worked to a point. Something else must have gone wrong because the data can't be seen on the drives without plucking through the drive via a recovery program.

Has anyone ever heard of this sort of cloning gone wrong issue?

Could we see the Partitions window in DMDE (freeware disc editor)?
