Hi,

I've got a slow responding WD20NMVW-11AV3S2. The PCB is 2060-771961-001 REV A. What's the best way to recover Data von this HDD?

I think, there are two ways. The first one is to solder on some wires to the PCB to get SATA connection. Another way would be a board swap with U12 swap.

But AFAIK the Data on the WD Drives is encrypted. How to deal with it? Swap the PCB again, when I fixed the slow responding problem with PC3k?

Sure, or decrypt using DE or ReallyMine.

Ok.

I see, that PC3k DE has this feature. Thank you. That's my first encrypted drive.
I ordered the 2060-771960 PCB and hope, that this drive is going to work ;)

Did you try using Hddsupertool? Some of these 2tb WD drives have their system area locked and it won't work, but I have successfully used Hddsupertool to apply the slow fix to a few of them.

Yes, I tried. But I can't get access to the drive.

not yet. what do I need to connect to the HDD via terminal? I have two pins on one side and 12 on another side of the USB connector. What adapter do I need to connect it to pc3k?

Ok, I've got the ROM data. But I still need a donor PCB to write it on. Or did I missed something?

But now I can do it without soldering ;)

Ok, I connected the drive with the Terminal Interface. Now I can access the SA.

But it seems like there is another problem with this drive. It seems like the P-List and the Translator are damaged:

Code:
0033 : Err: 07    : Err: 07    : P-List (Primary defect list) (primary defects)
0031 : Err: 07    : Err: 07    : Translator (pdlist)
000C : Ok         : Ok         : Models table (Models table)
0034 : Ok         : Ok         : G-List (Grown defect list) (ground defects)
0032 : Ok         : Err: 05    : Relo-List (Candidate defects) (rbblist)
0036 : Ok         : Ok         : T-List Module
0029 : Ok         : Ok         : Loaded part of microprogram code
0040 : Err: 07    : Err: 07    : Adaptive data
0041 : Err: 07    : Err: 07    : Adaptive data
0042 : Err: 02    : Ok         : Adaptive data
0043 : Ok         : Err: 02    : Adaptive data
004E : Err: 07    : Err: 07    : Loaded part of microprogram code
0049 : Err: 07    : Err: 07    : Adaptive data
004A : Ok         : Ok         : Adaptive data
004D : Ok         : Ok         : Adaptive data
0003 : Ok         : Ok         : Format Select Data Module
0025 : Ok         : Ok         : Encyiption keys for encripted HDD (Encription key)
0026 : Ok         : Ok         :  (DLG DIAG Log)
0038 : Ok         : Ok         : Encyiption keys for encripted HDD (Encription key)
0039 : Ok         : Ok         : Loaded part of microprogram code
0037 : Ok         : Ok         : Gain Call Data Module
002D : Err: 07    : Err: 07    : Debug Log
002E : Err: 07    : Err: 07    : Loaded part of microprogram code

I tried to read the P-List and get this error:
Code:
Defect list reading
Table................................... : P-List
File.................................... : <HDD Profile>\Defects\PList2.chs
Defect list has damages in actual data area

But if I try composite reading, I get the P-List.

What can I do now?

First backup all resources. (Using terminal will take awhile doing it)
then check other copies
If its SA problem, you'll have to transfer the mod to another location

I have backuped the HDD Resources over night.
I read the Translator (Module 31) from Copy0 and Copy1 and replaced the "DEAD" Parts of one file with the parts from another (Zeros). Then I checked the Checksum and it was OK. Then I moved the 31 Module to another location and wrote the merged data from the damaged Modules back.

I did the same with the P-List.

But I still can't access the data. If I connect the HDD via USB to my PC, the drive gets recognized now, but I can't read any data.

Using PC3k via Terminal and Sector Edit I get "DISK DAM ERROR". I also tried to activate the "Decrypt" function, but it also didn't worked for me. What can I try next?

Hi,

I have the same drive... wd20nmvw-11av3s2
I can still copy data at a few hundred kb/s.

I have watched a few videos about the slow fix and used hddsupertool to backup 02 and 32 but since I dont own PC3000 or DataExtractor, even if patch 02 and 32 I won't be able to decrypt the data, if I manage to actually image the drive afterwards.

In a similar case I had before, I sent the drive to Helpdisc in Serbia, but is it really worth it this time ?

Is there anything a normal user can do, that you could recommend me to do ?

Thx in advance.
