Hi,

I am new here so forgive me for not understanding the skills and techniques to repair a hard disk drive. I will try my best to learn and accept the outcome and consequences of my actions.

I have a Seagate Barracuda 2000GB drive that is showing up as "Local Disk <drive letter>" in Windows 10 but then it disappears after a few minutes when Windows can't communicate with the drive. The drive spins up like normal with no loud or unsettling noises but when the "Local Disk <drive letter>" icon disappears then the drive makes some kind of ticking sound. The sound is faint so I had to put my ear up to it. It feels like a heartbeat if I place my hand on the top casing but sounds like a ticking clock.

Anyway, I cannot get Seagate tools or BIOS to detect my drive and I have contacted DataPro Data Recovery Lab "www.hdd-parts.com" (Whiterock, BC) for a second opinion and based on the description of my problem they said it does not sound like a board issue.

I have attached a photo of the PCB since I had a problem using a image URL to my google drive because it was not possible to determine the dimensions of the image.

Is there anything I can do to further test this drive to find a solution? I searched and read about fixing the firmware and using donor boards. I have some tools and knowledge of working with electronics (ex. using a multimeter, soldering iron, etc.)

It is quite common for one or more heads to start failing on the 2TB DM series drives and the odds of it being a DIY case are very low. If you value your data, don't even bother wasting time and risking making it worse and go directly to a data recovery pro.

Thanks for your advice. I will take it to a data recovery professional to take a look. I would not be able to look at the heads myself since I do not have a lab or some kind of clean environment to expose the platters inside. I have seen this kind of room when I did my work experience at Xerox technologies back in the days.

I think you drive has errors and drive is trying to remap them and it is so busy by this process that it doesn't answer to OS. First of all I would like to ask you to show us terminal output.
