Hello,

I have a Western Digital 4gb Green drive, model WD40EZRX, that isn't powering up. It was last used in a USB dock yesterday and was working fine. Today, I wasn't able to get it to power on via dock. I also tried connecting it directly to a PSU sata power connector, and still was not able to get it to power up. There is about 1tb of new data on the drive that I did not get the chance to backup. Here are some photos of the drive as well as the PCB.

Start by checking R60, R43, D3 and D4.

Using the diode function test on my multimeter,
R60 reads 0.0
R43 reads 0.0

D3 reads 0.47
D4 reads 0.60

In the faq you linked, it says "If the meter reads close to 0.0 ohms, then the diode is most probably bad." Does that mean these diodes are all bad?

before you do anything more on the computer... check that folder that you cut the data before to see how much of the 1 tb data is not overwritten with a good recovery software

Unfortunately the 1 tb of new data is on the drive that I can't power up.

Does anyone have any insight on the measurements I took and how I should proceed?

The diodes and resistors are OK.

I would measure the voltages at L1, L3, L5, L8 and L9.

Also measure pins #1 and #3 of J1 (the HDA contacts).

There is another regulator at L6, but I don't understand its topology.

Thanks, I will check those out. To measure voltage at those locations, I would just plug in the PCB directly to a PSU and measure the voltages while it's receiving power? I just want to make sure I am doing it properly.

just get a new PCB and swap the ROM chip. (8 pin winbond chip)it will work

Yes, that's right. Use a screw hole as the ground reference (black probe).
