And just to answer the question, the file/folder structure is clearly not visible...

Then you have some kind of mess, or you can't understand my simple instructions. Sorry if I'm blunt, but it looks like DIY is not for you. :-(

You could try a new PCB, but it would be nice to see your files before spending any money.

Good luck, anyway.

Hold on there mate, I am not stupid OK? I did what you suggested and posted a number of pics that the "moderator" had to review first. I guess I made the mistake of adding this comment without the context of the other post that I did in response to your recommendations.

OK, then maybe DMDE behaves differently in a Mac environment. Can you try the same thing in Windows?

Hello all - I've been out for a bit, so here is some additional photo information as requested. Hope this helps. Also I am attaching what I saw in Disk Utility on the Mac.

Aside from the obvious, I am quite concerned that the partition sizes showing are smaller and don't add up to 4TB.

It looks like an "ASM1051W" SATA>USB bridge chip, if it is then that's non-encrypting.

So the problem is elsewhere.

OK this may be of more help. It definitely does not work like the MacOS version but here are the relevant captures I believe you were interested in seeing.

Thanks. That confirms that the file system was built behind a bridge that was configured for a 4KB sector size.

You can now double-click each of the BACKUP1 and BACKUP2 exFAT(4K) volumes and expand the Root. Hopefully you will see your files and folders.

Well I'll be damned the volumes opened up and I can see the files and folders!

I will continue on with the recovery process but thank you so much for your patience and inputs!

Kind regards,

Dan

Hey all - one final question - despite the fact that I was able to copy my data off the "failed" drive. Does the DMDE or other recovery software allow you to edit/remove the encryption information on the drive or is this basically reformatting once the data has been recovered to another device?

thanks again for your patience and assistance!
