Hi Guys, I have a seagate 4TB SSHD (model ST4000DX001) that sits in an external HDD dock, seems to power on but doesn't spin up and isn't visible in OS. BIOS doesn't post when connected via sata. No physical external damage done to it, so there shouldn't be any internal damage to the platters or head. I would think the PCB is damaged and having scoured through the forum it seems that the general consensus for these types of drives is that the NAND part of the drive has failed. I have another identical SSHD I can use as a donor for the PCB. Assuming it is a PCB related failure, question is can I use seatools to do a secure erase on the donor drive to clear its NAND, then do a ROM swap and use the donor PCB?
HDD is encrypted as an entire encrypted drive (not a standalone volume, not an OS drive) with truecrypt (made eons ago), not sure if there is any file structure info stored on the original PCB that is relevant for the donor PCB for truecrypt/veracrypt to decrypt the drive, I don't think there is as the OS always asks to initialize the drive when powered on. Does this also mean that if I go the data recovery route, that the disk imaging should be a lot easier?
