 Post subject: ST3000DM001 Spins Up, Not Seen in Bios

ST3000DM001 spins up, not seen in bios at boot. FW version is CC24, has not been updated. When connected externally via USB interface, it shows as an unrecognized device.

Connected to the drive via serial but only get the following. ctrl-Z does not seem to get me past this. I tried on another drive and was able to enter crtl-z to get to the prompt, so interface cable is ok.

Update, it took a while but I was able to get into the Terminal and got some additional detail, but it seems to be stuck repeating:

Any hope for recovering data from this one? Any advice is greatly appreciated.

press ctrl-V, this will enable interface command echo on terminal, so we can see status register when you plug it to the pc.
So the order should be:
-connect terminal
-power drive up (without usb connection)
-press ctrl-r, then ctrl-v after SATA Reset appears, you should see something like EchoInterfaceCommands: On
-attach drive to pc through usb

post the log here.

The disk shows up in Disk Manager as invalid. (It was not showing up at all before)

It eventually disappeared from Disk Manager and went to USB device not recognized

do not initialize it, coz you can loose the partition table. It's odd it doesn't show any commands and that it disappears from DM.
why don't you attach it through sata?

I can try to connect it directly to a sata port on the motherboard.

I tried a few times, at first it was showing up in the diskmgr as uninitialized.
