Hi community,

So I got a IDE WD2000BB-00DWA0, was an external drive in enclosure.... I connect it, doesn't spin. PCB = 2060-001179-003 REV A
I found a 2060-701266-001 REVA. If I use that PCB, drive spin. I tried to write the ROM and use it, doesn't work.

I've asked my frequent channel for donor, no one has that PCB.

There's no TVS diode and the whole PCB get hot when it's connected. Any chance to fix it ?
If not, is there a know compatible PCB number for 2060-001179-003 REV A ?

Main controlleur
WD70C22

HSA controller is Marvell
88C5540-LFE

Thanks
Sam

1266 is coming from an Eagle drive and definitely it will not work.

Have you eliminated the possibility of PUIS (Power Up In Standby)?

If you would like to measure some voltages, check Q4, U6 and D7.

Q4 get super hot. I'll try to replace this transistor.

Don't replace it yet. Check that there is no short to ground at the emitter. The pinout should be BCE (base, collector emitter). If it is shorted, then there will be a problem elsewhere. Measure the voltage on the other PCB -- it has a similar transistor in a different location.

Yes, Emitter is shorted, nice catch. Marvell MCU get also really hot. I'll compare with other PCB see If I can find the problem. If not I'll order PCB from abroad.

check preamp as well. If it got overvoltage, preamp might be toast. So as soon as you put a working pcb on it, it may kill the data for good.
