I will start writing here if I will see at least one question. For now all I see is "We do not know how to use it!" :-)

So I have no idea what to write here.

Hello Dmitry, something that I do not undertand is that he did not include himself in the category.
So maybe he can start to say us something about the ATA command and how the registers works, good to start ?

to Datacentar - I know that even same vendor - maxtor - there are different ATA commands for different hdd models !

Hello, I do not know nothing about SUPERON.

I only know a few that you could be able to find in Internet.

But IMHO the first step is start to read, ( I have been writting this here since Dmitry started the english part of the board ) and a good thing is to start from the first ATA commands, is more easy to learn when you start with it, less information in the begim is better to your learnning process, or for anyone else. ( please this is not specific for gustav, this is for everybody that would like to learn about ATA commands ).
Also to understand how the Registers of a hard disk works and what they are for, read more other 2 manuals - Quantum ST and Quantum TM.
To help in the learnning process I think that a good util is CP.exe and it has a manual ( in russian ) that is possible to translate and is good to understand what is Module or Code Pages ( CP ).
The author of CP.exe is the same that did HDDL (Mr.Lova Korjagin ), he also wrote a very good text about Code Pages and he also give a wonderfull explanation about LDR ( thank you very much Mr. Lova Korjagin ), the text is about "DISKWARE" and Mr. Dmitry Kissilev now in Action Front made a translation of this document from russian to english ( thank you very much, I only would like that you could do what you said at the time of the translation, remember ?, you said that you could translate others things to help people that would like to learn about hard disks ).
And there is another thing that will help a lot, http://www.ata-atapi.com ( thank you Mr.Hale to give us the oportunity to understand and to test ATA commands ) in this website you can read a lot about ATA command also you can have a demo of ATACT - ATA COMMAND TEST . In this same website you can have ATADRV and you can see how is possible to get access to hard disks.
And I can not forget to give a mention of the most important website for thouse that would like to learn about disks the http://www.t13.org.

Ok, I think that everybody that read and write here can see that for serius things I can give ( a little very little ) help, thouse that would like to work to improove the Data Recovery market will be allways welcome to talk to me, and if I can help - I will be allways ready.

Life of thouse that want to work with hard disk are not easy, help in this area is "vapoware" ( I think that people that work with computers remember what means this word ), everything is secret, when you ask help - serius help - people say - "who are you ?, why I will help you ? what do you have to give me in return ?.
Real help ?, only few guys a very few guys and is possible to see them here in Dmitry's board ( that helps a lot when give us the MHDD for free and with this space ) and I can not forget Andrey Kireev - that do not want to talk to me anymore ( but helps me a lot in the past, - thank you very much for that Andrey ), and I never did nothing bad to him. Andrey Kireev has another board that people discuss about disks, and sometimes we can see a small secret there same drill then here.

There also others boards, but IMHO this 2 boards are the best, also I read both every day at least 4 times, ( maybe you guys do not believe but I have 50 years , and I work 18 hours a day 7 days a week, not for the money but because I need to learn ).

Ok, this is enough for now. I have restrictions but lets gonna see what can happens here.

Jose Pinto

Ps: "Doctor cure yourself first " - I alredy did.

To be honest and to make justice, I need to write here a comment, about help.
I'm lucky because in this area, hard disk, I can be an exception I knew in the last 5 years a lot of guys that helped me. they are many and I even can not put here all theyers names, they are from many places and they speak many differents languages, to all you guys that never let me down when I need I only can say one thing :
THANK YOU VERY MUCH.
I hope I still can count with all of you, in my journey.

Thank you Jose for good explanation. I wish to add a couple of words:

Just imagine, you are asking for help, saying:

"Please give me this or that…"

You will be asked

"Why should I give this to you?"

And here is the most interesting part, you are asking:

"But where can I get this information?"

and the answer is:

At the same place where we found it!*

To Dmitry
You are right, I agree with you 100%.
I learned one thing, all the times that I need to ask help, I allways ask with a polied way. But you know that this is not the question, the question is not the way that help is asked. I even alrady hear, that help is responsable for you loose money, and if you start to think - is right. Why ? because sometimes you will help one guy here in Brasil and he will help a guy ( that is his friend ) in Russia, and this guy in Russia will help another guy in Brasil and this can happens many times in differents country. I can accept, is ok is part of our business and we do not know if this will change one day.
Thank you for you add is very usefull for me and also for others that will read the post.
Jose Pinto

I DO understand what all of you talk about !
If one helps another the progress take place in a shorter period of time !
Are you all not agree with me ?
Togheter we can solve things much faster and much better !
This is why I started the Topic , not for selfish reasons !
If I and other people understand and begin to use ATA COMMANDS with the hdds than all of US can benefit from this !
I appologise if I didn`t explain that sooner! You can`t understand what one person thinks if that person doesn`t speek !

Hi Gustav,

I agree with you - so I tried to apply it - in theory.

My next customer comes in with dead 2.5" and I do this.
I say to my customer : You know what, there will be progress.
I have this tester and I will test this IC and yes it is faulty and yes
I have another which cost me 2c and yes you can have it and yes
you can go this this soldering guy and he can replace this component
for $10 and yes your drive will work 100%.

Fantastic, but now I must discuss this new concept with my wife and kids.

So I tell them exactly how progress will work.

My wife says to me : "Will this bring us more money "?

"No" ! I say it will bring progress.

I think you know what the reply will be.

You want to progress ?. Already Dmitry has given all the basics you
need to research and discover how to use scripting.

I suggest that you find how HDDL can be used to read / write Fujitsu
(it is available on the net - look at the *.ini files) and apply this in MHDD scripting then you will easily read write Fujitsu and even as Dmitry has already said - MHT MHU 2.5" drives.

So it over to you to decide if you want to progress and reap the benefits of your work.

Hello Dmitry and other guys,

So I have simple question about script engine:

I have WD400BB-00CLB0. When I'm scanning surface using MHDD every block is SSSSS so I have learned on this forum that such disks has damage FIRMWARE on surface.

The question is: Can I repair FIRMWARE in such disks using script engine?
IF yes, what I need to have and how Can I do this? (Put some example).

I'm interesting only in hardware problems and try do learn about structure of HDD. It is not my main job - only my hobby. If anyone can help me understand I will be very thankful.

Hello Valera,

Thanks for your example. But it means nothing to me at that moment:) I must learn from BASIC about ATA Commands. I have some experience about HDDs, but it is no deep knowledge. So answer me if You can on few simple questions: What I'm dealing with, when I have all SSSSS? Am I correct that this is Firmware problem? Can I get good firmware (modules?) from the same model? If yes, can I do this using only special soft or maybe using script engine? Can I sent (write) such good modules to the hdd with SSSSS using script engine? Have you got any doc or link with all ATA Commands? Because on T13.org is quite difficult to find proper docs. Too many docs are there.

I see that many people on this forum need something, but almost no one want to help others. We have such situation on this topic - someone started good thema - "scripting engine - how to" and no one untill today has told with sense. Only posts with explanation why they can't or don't want to tell.

Guys, you are a little strange. I already gave you almost everything.

Damon, if that means nothing to you, then please make yourself familiar with how hard disk works.

Ok, I will give you some examples:

1. BAD question:
How can I repair this?

2. GOOD question:
Is it safe to put zero in register 1x6?

PS. I becoming a little mad.

to Damon:

Standard ATA commands will not help you with FW.
But it is a good thing to start to learn standard commands and their using.
Good luck!

Hello all,
Dmitry you not only gave everything you did more a lot more then this.
Including your last comment, sometimes I think and you put here in words what I was thinking, but I did not know how to.
Thank you for this too.

Jose Pinto

Ps: Why people do not go to (for example ) Acelab's website and get there the article about hard disks ?, also there and at Andrey Kireev's website has the hddtech.pdf. Better then ask where I can find a good utility to solve my problems. IMHO of course.

doing hdd repair i learn one thing !
and i don`t want to upset anyoane but it is true !
when you learn and you reach a level of knowledge you become more and more suspicious and you don`t want to share with others !
less they know the better for you !
A QUESTION !
if we are from different countries can`t we share knowledge ?
i think that no one bussiness is in trouble ! Maybe the hdds are !
:)
thank you people !
you realy are the great !
god bless you !
