Hi there! I've recently purchased a custom built PC, these are the specs: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/hgpYH2 The PSU isn't exactlu the same, I couldn't find it on that website. The actual PSU is https://seasonic.com/b12-bc (the 750W).

The specific HDD model is ST2000DM008. I have CrystalDiskInfo running to monitor the health of the drive and when playing certain games it triggers the temperature alarm for that drive (currently set up at 55 Cº). The funny thing is that the drive isn't really doing any intensive work, I'm running the OS and the games on the Samsung SSD, so it's getting hot most likely due to the heat emitted by their neighbor components (with the PSU being the main culprit, since it's right below the drive bays).

I contacted the tech support of the website where I ordered the PC, and the guy told me that the drive temperature was normal, in fact he told me that it could run up to 80 degress without any problems. And I was like "80 degrees Celsius or Fahrenheit?", because if it's Celsius, that's so damn hot. He also told that he has a similar drive running at 62 Cº without any issues... But I dont fully believe him. He also said that the manufacturer is always going to put an ideal temperature, but in practice it may withstand much more. And if any component gets too hot, thermal thermal throttling kicks in to avoid damaging it.

That's why I came here to get a second (and hopefully many more) opinion(s). So, what do you think, guys. Should I get worried by this temperatures? Should I return the drive and replace it for another model? Or... Maybe I should get some cooler for the drives?

The threshold temperature for SMART alerts is 60C. Attribute 0xBE reports the normalised values as "100 - temp in deg C".

Ok, so if I understood correctly, the safe limit is 60 ºC and 55 fall under the safe range. Should I get worried if it ever goes over 60 ºC?

Seagate does not recommend operating at sustained case temperatures above 60°C.
Operating at higher temperatures will reduce useful life of the product.

You are focussing on the wrong issue.

You should rather provide pictures of your computer having the side cover removed and pictures that show how you mounted your drive within your computer.

I am not using drives that are running at 7200 rpm but even my 5400 rpm drives are mounted with a 12cm fan blowing air slowly over the top of the drive and over the PCB below.

Read the google study about temperatures and drive health and react.

Something is rotten with your setup.

You most probably have a cooling problem, a lack of air flow.
