Hi,

I have old WD 160Gb Sata WD1600AAJS-08PSA0, family: Sequoia.
Hdd totally dead, no spinning, no clicking.
I wonder that how to copy the ROM ?
There is no ROM IC, ROM storage in controller IC.
Hope somebody knows, it may some trick ? Or game is over.

Terminal/COM is no response, I use MRT.

Thanks

If the preamp is ok, then you can hotswap it to find firmware version, then write the correct ROM based on the fw version to the donor pcb. Then, copy data.

If this is your PCB ...

... and if you want to check some voltage test points, measure the voltages at Q4 (near the SATA power connector) and C24 and D2 near the motor controller. These will be Vcore, Vio and Vneg (preamp).

Hi,

So first place is swap embedded ROM QFP (supposed this 2nd chance), patient to donor hdd, it works, data saved.
Anyway , I replaced faulty Q4, TVS and R0 on patient hdd ( supposed this 1st chance), test the pcb, it works!
So in time being both donor and patient in working condition
