I have got a WD 500AAJS (WD Caviar SE) hard disk. In PC3K it shows pcb short symptoms (all registers lit)
It is not spinning obviosuly pcb could be the issue. It has no physical rom present. I have more than 100 donor disks but none of them have similar pcb
(patient - 2060 -701477-002 Rev A) , all I have are 2060 -771640- XXXX) , will they compatible . Is there any way to repair PCB

Couple of those caps don't look too healthy (76/37). Have you done the usual checks on the fuses & diodes and checked the voltages at the inductors.

Hi,
Instead of 701477 you can only use 701444

Thanks Lardman :good: :-D
Yes fuses and diodes are ok but I have missed capacitors. I will check.

Try reading the ROM with BootCode.
If it fails, upload to the donor PCB ROM from the Tornado disk and rebuild the ROM based on SA modules.

hi Mikippp
I have similar case pending for exactly same model. Customer has given disk to a pc repair shop and in experimentation they have lost original pcb.
IS it possible to recover data using non native pcb or rom ? or regenerate rom using Tornado donor pcb
Thank you

yes, it is possible. With pc3k surely, not sure about the others, but i think it is also possible with a hex editor once you can access the fw and you know what to do with it.

Thanks a lot :good: , Your help will be useful for solving a pending case. I have PC3K but do not have 701444 PCB , where can I get model nos of compatible Tornado family disks and PCB nos. Will it be OK if Rev. A B C etc is mismatched

I have written a tool to regenerate the ROM from SA modules.
