Good day folks. Hybrid SSHD type drive. When powered up it produces two distinct clicks with small interval between them, disk then keeps spinning afterwards as if everything is okay. Does not show up in OS, does not show up in BIOS.

Been in my use since 2014, no issues. Couple of months ago i transfered our entire family archive to it, so it is important. CrystalDiskInfo designated it as healthy with 0 issues too, which is just so funny and sad at the same time...

PCB had some corrosion on connection pads, it was gently scrubbed and wiped with alcohol, but there was no change in behavior. PCB has no burn marks or any other visible signs of fault.

I have ordered a donor of a same model, but it's firmware is CC43. Are there any precautions regarding firmware incompatibilities when boardswapping? I have expertize in component repair, i could swap those bios chips or chip incase that is required...

Firmware is on the platters, swapping a board from a different firmware ver. HDD will not be the issue. You will likely need to seek out a pro to deal with the NAND (or the SSD part of the your SSHD) and the move the ROM. A pro can also determine if you have another issue (eg: mechanical) without the need to swap the board.

Second... i'm a retard. I confused firmwares. Both my old and new drives are CC43. Swapping boards still produced the same two clicks but this time it spins down after it though.

I would really like to avoid giving my data to third party. But I think this is where my skills are not gonna cut it. Swapping out bios chips won't do me any good now, will it? .w.

You need to replace heads if you are skilled enough

I could so that... just need some pratice, r~right? Haha. Would you still need to use some fancy tool like pc3k or smth like that?

(I am just really worried about letting a foreign person potentially looking at our data, haha...)
