Using latest version of PC-3000 Express.

Patient Drive is a Samsung ST1000LM024

The drive spins up and sounds good, drive does not ID and no PHY. I suspect PCB Issue. I took PCB from similar drive (same model number, but not exact firmware version) and connected to the drive just to see if I get PHY, which it does.

I have ordered an exact match donor and intend to copy the ROM from the patient PCB to the donor PCB.

I am trying to read the ROM from the patient drive using terminal, but I am getting the following message:

Read ROM via terminal
****************************************
Error pulse set error; Terminal is busy (6)
****************************************
Test interrupted

Any suggestions?

Just read it out with a programmer.
What do you see when you power up the drive in terminal with native PCB?

Hi. Thank you for your response. The drive spins up (sounds normal), the drive does not ID. Nothing shows in the terminal window. If I try to read the ROM, the red light on the terminal adapter flashes a few times then the log says: Terminal is busy (6) and then asks to switch the drive to test mode. If I click yes, the drive get powered on/off multiple times and displays multiple "terminal is busy" errors.

I am trying to read through PC-3000 without a programmer as I would prefer NOT to desolder if possible. If I have no other choice, I'll manually transfer the ROM chip from the Patient PCB to the Donor PCB. I'd prefer not to do that if possible.

Not possible for this drive to show nothing in term. It will show preamp data before the drive spins. Check your connector.

Any chance you are using the Segate adapter instead of the Samsung?

Thanks for the responses.

I am definitely using the Samsung adapter. I just found out from the End User that the drive went to a computer shop before it came to me, so I decided to look at the PCB under magnification (which I should've done right away) and I see now that many components are missing, probably knocked off by the people who looked at the drive before me. That would explain why Terminal is not working. I ordered a donor and I guess I'll just have to move the ROM chip from the patient to the donor PCB. Thanks for trying to help, it's much appreciated.
