Hi. My Samsung EVO 860 SATA m2 has died after the mains went off. On Windows it is shown in the Device Manager, but that's all. On linux it is listed with a lsblk, but I can't read any sectors at all. I tried many commands without success. It just cannot read.

I got a microscope after watching some videos on youtube repairing this same ssd in the 2.5" size. I've been checking out the capacitors. So far I haven't found a faulty one.

Where should I focus? Im kind of lost at this SMD repairing subject.

Cheers!

What does CrystalDiskInfo report?

There is nothing you can do. Even the professional tools do not yet support your model, AFAIK.

I've noticed a common problem with Samsung 860 Evo that suddenly they are no longer detected.
I was able to make detect them again after i keep them powered on for many hours on a stable PC.

After they get detect again, i've seen raw value on C7 and EB smart attributes increased.
If you keep to connect the ssd to unstable pc (which caused the drive to be detect) it will not come back to function, you've to be sure to plug to a good pc and keep it on for few hours, then try to reboot pc and it might come back to work.

On my research, computer with unstable power supply or with CPU thermal throttle issue can cause this problem.
You may want to change thermal paste between CPU and heat sink or change PC.

This is an example of an 860 Evo that was recovered from BIOS undetected.

My own 860 Evo has gone offline 3 times now. The first two instances were recoverable by doing what you have suggested. I didn't see any errors in SMART, though. Unfortunately, third time unlucky. :-(

Yes i know, it's frustrating. Sometimes i have to insist with this procedure.
It can happen that the exposed procudure will not help, but it may work if you retry after few months... but it has to be done on a very stable PC.
I don't know why it behavies like that and why trying to recover them in a different period of time it may get these SSDs to come back to life.

I left it powered up all day yesterday. This morning it is working again.
