Hi

I have this hard disk that when connected the light goes on and starts spinning, but it spin out in a couple of seconds. Connected with usb3 cable usb2 but nothing on windows does recognize it.
So I opened it up and I realized that it's not SATA, but there is a "custom" usb controller attached to the disk.
Generally, when these things happens, it's not a mechanical failure but a controller failure but in this case this is not SATA so I can't easily replace it.

Considering that it's an old drive and I don't have to recover data from it (I just want to understand if I can use it as a spare drive) do you think that there is a way to understand it it can be recovered?
Notice that I do NOT have access to soldering tools (I do solder but not on SMD and this tiny techniques) so my idea is to replace the board entirely, if possible (and cost effective).

Also, seems that my board is not screwed but somewhat soldered to the disk...

This is most likely not a controller issue, either firmware or heads. So if the data is not important, just move on.
ps: the board is never soldered to the HDA, no idea what you might be referring to...

You are very right. What seemed soldering points are very tiny torx screws....my eyesight is not as good as it was

From all the "NOT TRUE" 's, this is the biggest one.

As told by pepe, this is most likely heads and/or firmware issue, so if data not important, move on.
