To preface I'm a complete amateur here and doing this partially out of wanting to recover data as well as to learn and see if I can do it.

I have this HGST 500gb drive, when plugged in does not emit any noise, no spinning, no beeps etc. Some google searches etc lead me down the path of a bad TVS diode. However I'm having a hard time actually matching up what components are what. Can anyone tell me what I should be looking at/for?

I understand the SATA power pins and which should be ground and which 5v etc. My understanding from google was that the TVS diode should sit across a ground and live rail however I can't spot anything near the connector that looks to do that. I have a multimeter so can do tests on the diodes resistors but just have no idea what I should be testing.

Not sure why you're having a problem IDing the diodes. They're marked R and 6.2. but it's not likely to be those - 2.5" drives dont normally have problems unless you've done something daft with PSU cables. Check the fuse "N" for continuity - what's the history these are normally mechanical not electrical.

Hey, thanks for the info. As I said I'm just starting to learn this and was trying to pick it up by what I'd found online. I figured those were the diodes but was hoping to get some more solid confirmation. So thanks for that, I'll check the resistance on the fuse.

Managed to get a matching PCB and swap the ROM. Drive is now working and data recovery is complete.
