Hi Guys!I must admit that your knowledge is superb here..Keep Going
I own i WD800JB-00ETA0.As i was changing molex connector on my psu
i made a stupid mistake.I left one power molex with opossite 12+ to 5+ and reverse!!guess that it was on my disk place..damn...So it never open again...no bios...no spin...no sound.i tested it on my usb adapter..nothing.
I detached the pcb and i found 2 llitle ic - resistor burn.So i managed to find a same disk like.
My disk-------------------------Other Disk Working
S/N WCAHL3070882------------------WCAHL3044316
MDL WD800JB-00ETA0----------------WD800JB-00ETA0
DATE 18 AUG 2003------------------7 AUG 2003
DCM DSBHCTJAH--------------------HSBHCAJAA
LBA 156301488--------------------156301488
think both are so identically.I swapped their pcb but not working either.
No spin on bios but know when in USB adapter starts to spin goes on. zzzz..clack....zzzz....clack.Think resync?
So my next step was to exchange their firmware-eeprom with the 8 legs near motor. With the help of an electronic guy dit it.But with the same result.Spins a little only when on usb.Bios doen't spin nor recognise.Any suggestions please.I got all my files in there........HELP a desperate man!

It would appear that not only did the damage destroy the PCB but also the heads.

If this is the case the drive will require clean room attention.

It is possible that an incorrect firmware version has lead to the noises that you can hear, to eliminate the possiblity of this you may wish to attempt to repair the opriginal PCB if at all possible.

Hope this helps

Your drive should work with the new pcb unless the comutator/preamp is gone. Even if the firmware is different the drive should spin up. So the diagnose is damaged comutator/preamp . The head assembly + comutator/preamp should be changed, so you need a specialist!

So..comutator\preamp is off .I can't do nothing for this. How much will it cost me for a cleanroom job?
