I have a Western Digital hard disk that is recognized by BIOS (sometimes immediately, sometimes with difficulty - after a few seconds) but it does not show up in Windows or DOS. FDISK complains it cannot access the disk. Also, if it is powered on for a few minutes and a boot is performed, clicking/clunking sounds are heard.
Below is the Dlgdiag report:

SELECTED OPTION - "OTHER OPTION"
SELECTED DRIVE -
Model :
S/N :
Firmware :
C H S :
Capacity :
Drive :
RESULTS - "SMART ERROR"
ERROR/STATUS CODE = 0159

and below is MHDD report:

WDC WD450AA-00BAA0 FW:10.09K11
SN:WD-WMA2E1167664 LBA:87930864
Supports: HPA DLMC LBA MS16 DMA (UDMA4 MWDMA2)
SMART: Enabled Security: high, OFF

SMART READ ATTRIBUTES FAILED!

RESET FAILED

SCAN shows full of LBA errors.

What might be the problem: firmware, PCB or mechanical? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I think your H.D.D has a firmware problem. You can’t repair it by general software. If you want you can send your information to my mail address (mehran@ihddc.net) that I can guide you better.

could be corrupted firmware or the logic chip is damage
the clicking sound is the head knocking onto the platter back and forwards

if your good at soldering you can unsolder the controller chip and put a new one on
and this should work just like new
