To get the data back from the Hard Disk that is not being detected by BIOS?

I had a Western Digital Cavier Special Edition (WD2000JB) 200GB hard disk attached to a Promise IDE Controller card (PCI Card) as a Master with Slave attached. This disk worked for over 2 years flawlessly. Then slowly I noticed that my shutdown time has increased but I did not suspect anything as I thought it could be due to lots of programs being installed and later uninstalled causing the Windows XP Pro SP2 registry to bloat. Then ONE BAD BAD day when I clicked on the drive in Windows Explorer I got an error "Invalid Drive Parameter". The drive was not being read by Windows but was still there as a logical drive. I looked into the Event Viewer and found the following message reported by Promise Controller Card driver in the SYSTEM logs repeatedly before the disk went down.
Quote:
The driver has detected that device \Device\Scsi\ultra1 has old or out-of-date firmware. Reduced performance may result.

I then tried to remove the disk from the controller and tried to detetct it in another computer but the BIOS did not detect it. Even in the computer it was being detected stopped detecting it. I think, the controller card had it cached in its EEPROM and once I disconnected it, even the Promise IDE Controller card cannot auto detect it. In the other computer I tried, I connected the drive directly to the motherboard's secondary IDE as primary and it failed the auto detect.

Are there any programs out there that can help me recovery the data without sending this disk to data recovery services people?

Any help will be highly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.
-Amit
