I am really concerned, what consequences can have if i mount 3.5" HDD into 5.25" bay only with 2 screws at one side.

Any experience or theory are welcome.

I thinks there is no consequences. but if you only have 2 screws, its better to put one on the side, and one more in the other side. make it tight and diagonally.. I do it all the time if I only have 2 screws.. and it works well.

Hi,

also there is a metal frame which you first screw to both sides of the hdd and then it becomes 5.25" and so you can mount to 5.251 bays easily.

I am building a file server, in big tower case, and i have plenty of screws, but i am lack of those metal fitting frames. I understan that the screws must be tight to help the drives to dissipate more heat, and to keep drives cool with forced air flow.

But i'm afraid that the block of warm drives will bend slightly, resulting in head mis-aligment witch will lead to bad read-write performance, and finaly to defective drive.

Or the block is mutch stronger, and my concerns ar just too 'dark' ?

Dear vlaszlo,

Please check the web link below for the details of the product.
It is called hdd frame and very simple metal thing. Also there are some other complex things for these but the frame in the site is quite enough for you.
