Hello,

I have Maxtor Drive 40GB IDE
6e040l0711214
nar61ha0
KMBA

It shows in windows but gives error when selected. I need some data from drive (drive only has ~4GB on it).
I have tried normal software data recovery methods (getdataback software) but it gives many errors on drive.

I have looked through forums but am running out of time for customer.

Any suggestions?

Thanks.

How it is identified in BIOS?

The hdd appears normally in the bios (not the n40p problem).

When running mhdd scan, I get a lot of >500ms responses and some unc and amnf errors.

It is fat32. When I tried to ghost the drive, ghost gave me crc error messages.

How do I show smart errors on the screen? It tries to write a log file but it is booted from cdrom.

Thanks.

Sounds like surface damage/degradation to me, either that or a failing head.

Get it imaged professionally ASAP if I were you.

Where are you based?

Hi,

I have found the problem. I forgot to turn off SMART in the bios before doing my data recovery. When I disabled it, I could use getdataback successfully.

Thanks.
