Hi all,

See if you can help me with this one..

I was messing about with a Maxtor 6Y080L0 today, running selfscan for no particular reason.

But the power went off :-(

Now when I try to access drive with PC3000 it reverts to family name and wrong FW version appears, so I thought "No problem I have full FW backup"....

Enter safe mode... Load LDR from Database.... Starts clicking for a 10 secs or so, then becomes ready...Click "HDD ID reading"... correct f/w version appears (no s/n, model or size)... OK... So enter utility.....

1B overlay loading
1C overlay loading
ROM Copy loading
HDD Soft Reset
Overlaies loading
HDD Soft Reset
Ok!

HDDs Identivication has been read
Read roadmap............................ : Ok
Read roadmap extension.................. : Ok
Read zone allocation table.............. : Ok
Read Technological ID................... : Ok
Read Zone allocation table extension.... : Ok
U_LIST not found
SA head................................. : 3
Ext Model............................... : ..............
HDD structures have been read successfully

Now, all modules will "READ" OK, but on checking modules it says headers or checksums are wrong for lots, including 37 (U_List) :-(

In fact when I view the U-List it is full of "0" and won't re-write from database.

Anything I can do?

Data not important on this one, as was old drive I was wiping anyway, but would be nice to get it fixed!!

Cheers in advance!

Sean

I did try to run selfscan again, in Safe Mode, but will not :-(

Can't get it to fire up in anything other than Safe Mode.

check SA errors if there are errors then rewrite the corresponding module to the UBA then chek again if there are errors or not and for selfscan u need to edit selfscan script .

Hi,

Checked SA and there are indeed two defects in UBA, right at the end.

But the defects are given in LBA, and the U-List is asking for defects in CHS. Can't see a way to translate :-(

I used selfscan script from an identical drive, but would not run in Safe Mode. Initialise the selfscan, and of course it will not start until power off/on, back to Safe Mode :-(

This one is bugging me now, luckily I don't need data, but would be nice to find a solution forfuture reference!

If I find the solution in the meantime, I'll post it here.

Any more suggestions greatfully received!!

Selfscan can be started in Safe Mode.

Thanks for reply.

How?

It doesn't seem to work for me.

I do...

1. Enable Safe Mode
2. Load LDR
3. Enter Utility
4. Start Selfscan
5. Wait..... nothing happen

Am I being stupid?

Any help appreciated!!

Sean

Is it still possible to run "offline" utility start ? You said you backup all (to profiles or to Database?)

if it's still possible, fix the UList using the backup module...
