Hello to all ,

I have a little confusion about changing pcbs of Maxtor drives as my post earlier i asked that some pcbs have ROM chip and some dont , I need to know that if i have a pcb with ROM chip present and one that doesnot have ROM chip and both pcbs are identical can i change them both with each other and also solder the ROM chip to the pcb that doesnot have ROM chip and connect to hdd will it work ?

I am working with the calipso drives 6y80 series and the serial ROM chip .

Thanks .

U don't need to put a rom chip if the PCB doesn't contain one.
In this case the ROM is masked in the processor already.
regards,
pepe

Hi,
It is not possible to rewrite masked ROM !!!
http://www.techweb.com/encyclopedia/def ... masked+ROM
You must use the logic board with correct version of masked ROM in CPU

Why are you saying that the problem is with ROM?

That code is perfectly valid. "Z" at the end means "system area is damaged "

the end code Z indicates that the SA is damaged but did u see the before the Z NAR6"3G4"Z that shows that this is because of ROM , this code comes when hdd in safe mode .

I fixed the problem by the way some idiot replace pcb with another mismatching pcb as u know there are two kinds of pcbs one with external serial ROM chip and one with masked ROM chip i changed it with the external ROM chip . now hdd ok .

Thank you all for help .
