 Post subject: Seagate St380011A problem

I have a seagate ST380011A 80 GB 8.01 Hard disk It gives error .
HEAD MASK FFFF. HEAD MASK FFFF. HEAD MASK FFFF.

What could be done to recover data. Please advice

darkfroce1 Check the -5V for the preamp and spindle IC (Smooth/SHxxxx) or could try known good suitable PCB.
If problem persis most common you will need head exchage.

darkfroce1 show full log of the terminal when enabling the voltage,
HEAD MASK FFFF - Many reason Can be caused from loss of information in flash (start from masks like M-11), before faulty heads\preamp (absence of his power).

2 Samo Sometimes resistor is torn off on lines +5v (Preamp power).

Thanks for the reply. I have changed the PCB and also tried hot swap. I thinnk its Head problem. Will post log tomorrow.
