 Post subject: Seagate 80GB Sata stops computer from booting

Hi,

I bought a Seagate 80GB sata about 3 years ago... a day back, the computer doesnt bootup. I tried to open the unplug the HDD and the computers turns on but gets stuck on the CMOS screen because theres no HDD to boot from...

I tried to plug in the HDD to my bro's comp, it somehow doesnt let the comp boot up too...

All my works inside.. what do i do???

Is your hard disk detecting in bios, is it enable in bios, is it spining or is it knocking. have u pluged it on another PC. Please describe the problem.

When i switch on the computer with my HDD plugged in, i see a black screen. Nothing else. It doesnt even let me see the bios screen. When i unplug the HDD the computer starts off as it should, but because it doesnt find any HDD it doesnt boot up normally.

I plugged in the HDD to another Comp. it does the same thing with the comp. Just shows a black screen without even going to the BIOS screen.

The HDD does spin, but no other sound is audible.

Yes it is enabled in BIOS. The SATA used to be primary HDD in my comp.

when u power on the computer with disk attached you mean to say that your pc dosent power up and when u unplug the disk pc statrs normally. right

maybe the diode on +12v input is broken ( shorted )...

Possibly a software issue? I had a drive that tested 100% fine using DOS utilites, but Windows would crash with it attached. Using a USB enclosure, Windows would BSOD when this drive was connected! After a lot of head scratching, I formatted the drive, and problem was solved.


Ahh, nevermind. Read the messages more closely. Yes, could be something shorting the +12 or the +5, or maybe something really screwy on the IDE bus.

simple solution is find the same hard disk like you have. match its model # and Firmware # as it should be same. like your hard disk is ST380812AS with firmware 3.AAC then other hard disk should also be same.

change the pcb and then power on. I hope you will get your data
