I have a WD2500JS Hard Disk. It cannot be detected during boot up. When running the original diag. program from WD, the Model Number and Serial is shown as follow:

MODEL NUMBER: WDC ROM MODEL-HAWK-----
SERIAL NUMBER: WDC-ROM SN# XYZ ----

Anybody had seen that?

FYI, I have dropped this HD. After that incident, the HD can still be read at that night. On the following day, I want to backup all file HD but it cannot be detected any more.

It is being detected only in Safe Mode (i.e. ROM info)

Is either PCB or some physical problem. PCB you can check fairly easy - You need identical PCB and take the ROM info from existing ROM and put onto donor PCB, either by unsoldering ROM or with a programmer.

I would normally say PCB on WD drives, but as you say, the drive is dropped, was it dropped in use or while off?

I placed the HD in the top of the PC and it accidentally dropped while turned on. I picked up the HD and reconnected to the system and it still work. It was too late in the night so that I shut down the PC and the HD and expected to backup the disk in the next day. But in the next day, it become like this. Whats wrong?

Like Sean said, or electronic or head problem i get a case similar like this from another DR company here on my country , wich they cant recover it WD800BB-75FJA1

One knock, stop motor, start up again anther knock then show

MODEL NUMBER: WDC ROM MODEL-MAMMOTH-----
SERIAL NUMBER: WDC-ROM SN# XYZ ----

And all data was recovered :D

But could be show another syntomph " 2 knock´s too. so u need to check if, u dont have the way to make diagnostics, and tools, and the room for the process , so u need to send to a DR Company

Best Regards

Sinceraly
