Hello,

I have a drive, Maxtor 4D040H2, shows in BIOS as ROMULUS. I connected to the drive via pc3000 and found several errors and drive can't be identified. Connected in safe mode, started loader, then loaded the Maxtor utility. Ran the SA module test and got an error on mod 18 (AT_PDL), mod 64 (MAXATG), and mod 33 (HUTL/HUSR).

I copy new mod 18 from database and all all worked as expected, but mod 64 (MAXATG) will not copy over from database. It acts like it copied over, but its still corrupt with a header error (still pink). Without this fixed, the drive will not load outside safe mode.

Why can't I copy the MAXATG from the database?? Also, is there another way to regenerate the p-list if mod 33 is corrupt?? Can this be done manually??
thanks
chao

If u regenerate the P LIST and if u take P LIST from another model, P LIST Its adaptive , unique for this hdd u could be shifted data and garbage.

hello,

Yes I understand the Plist is adaptive, however, I have recovered drives lwith this type of problem by copying over the corrupted mod 18 (AT_PDL) with one from the database and regenerating the translation table from mod 33. The problem here is the following:

1. I am not able to sucessfully write over mod 64 (MAXATG) which also shows bad header (I write over with copy from database but it still stays in the corrupted state). When looking at this file in the hex viewer is all "0" except for two hex decimals about at the halfway point. I believe the corruption of this module is keeping the drive from booting outside of safe mode. I'm thinking of copying mod 64 from another 4D04H2 and trying to copy that over... FYI.. I can write to the SA...

2. Mod 33 also displays as having a bad header and checksum. Its size is also 6004 which seems high (can someone confirm this?).

I cannot get the drive to boot outside of safe mode so I can try to regenerate the AT_PDL, even though it may be useless with the corrupted mod 33. I'm thinking if I can get the damn drive to boot outside safe mode, I can try to manually fix the checksum on mod 33 prior to trying the regeneration of the translation table. Surely someone has seen something similar?? Thanks.

Does anyone know if it is possible to regenerate the AT_PDL that has been copied from the database while the drive is still in safe mode?

ok, i ran sa structure test and it fails to read some UBA, also some headers give error. Does this mean SA has damages sectors? How can this be rectified? Here is the data from the test:

also note that I can read the modules with the "sa testing and recovery" and this reads all modules and shows corruption only to mod 18, 64, and 33. All others read fine and appear to have good integrity. Why would the sa structure test then show errors accessing so many areas of UBA?

Can someone give some professional insight?? thank you
chao

Try to read 18 from both copies and then compile one from these two.

The MAX_ATG is an un important module and even in ok hdd this module is bad so no need to take any action on this one .
As far as other modules are concerned give me the UBA no which gives error .
Do u need data or you are doing this for data recovery ?
