Since one week my Maxtor is detected from bios as N40P. I tried to solve the problem reinstalling a new firmware with pc3000 tool but i'm afraid i did something wrong.

My hd firmware is: NAR61EA0
I installed this one: NAR6159Z

I need to recover only two files!!!

Have you some hints to help me? Thanks

Hi Ves82,

Good of you to notice 61ea0 and 61590.

when you "installed" new firmware what exactly did you do ?

and what version pc3k you working with here ?

Maybe you can qualify for "free" pC3000 support forum on MHDD :)

I'm using the version 14.
I used PCMX_PKR (version 2.03) for testing the drive and for "loading" the new .ldr file but the problem is still the same! Now my hd is detected from bios as N40P - NAR6159Z. I don't know what to do as I'm a newbie in this metter.

I ask: the firmware i used is the right one?

I repeat: I need to recover only two files!!

Thanks

Hi Coffeebean ,
Why Do You Say This .Cos IF He Is Trying To Learn Tell If If You Wanna Tell Him .Otherwise Let Him Do it On His Own but Do Not Say Like That .Ace Support is Very Limited ,Just 1 Month For New UDMA Version .After Taking Out The Sundays What Are You Left With .According To Elena There They Will Cancel All Your Forum Access ,Software Updates And Personal Support .Pure Blackmailing .............. And According To Indian Money Its 2 Lakh Plus Very Very Expensive ,We Get USD 10 To USD 25 For Recoveries Here .So This Is The Next Best Forum

Hi Ves82,

a. What did you write (to drive)

b. What did you record (from drive)

Accurate answer is quite important.

Amarbir, chill my buddy :)

HDD Repair 2.0?
Who produces it? I repeat, I'm only interested to recover data from this hdd. Any suggestion about what program is usefull for me?
I would like to learn repairing it by myself!

However I wrote to drive this file 6E040LO.LDR that I found on the net. I didn't record anything from the drive and (most of all) I didn't touch g-list and p-list and I didn't check modules.

Before this problem hdd was perfect according the last smart check. No surface problems!!

First of all I want to notch something. It does not matter you need 1 or 10 files or whole drive. Because the job you will have to do is almoust one and same. And it consist of "waking" drive through IDE. Yes of course taking out whole drive info is a bit longer and complex.

Now about LDR. Loading LDR does not mean you "wrote" something to drive service area. You just upload part of a microprogram to RAM. Once you do this successfully you have access to reading(writting) to drive SA. Loading of LDR do not fix anything, it's just a part of proces of reapir.
After that SA must be inspected, and found problems must be fixed.
The program that is used within the proces of repair/recovery do not influence the steps.
One more thing, always do a back up before write something to drive

Regards
Samuil

Location: In ur HDD !
First thing get an appropriate LDR for this drive u said ur drive ROM code is NAR61590 and u used LDR with ROM code NAR61EA0 find LDR with matching ROM code atleast using wrong LDR could damage the hdd and could make it impossible to recover then . After loading LDR use SA writing test to verify ur LDR .
