I have a 2000 manufactured Maxtor DiamondMax VL 40 (model #33073H3) drive that is malfunctioning. In the BIOS it now gets recognized as Maxtor Proxima - also size is 10GB instead of original 30GB. It does not boot up. I put it as a slave drive on second computer and it is still Proxima in that computer also (and I get a drive failure message). Thirdly, I put it in a HD enclosure and set it up as a USB on another computer and it is also Maxtor Proxima.

I need to recover some of the data from it. From doing some research, I understand that it is a firmware malfunction. Where do I go from here? I was able to find a file that has a loader D215_yah814yz.ldr and A1.ram and bunch of rpm files (also some smb files). I am not sure how this works or how to use it.

Can you guys please help? Thanks very much in advance.

Hi Ajit

You need PC3000 to repair drive. If data is critical then go to any Data recovery company. don't do it by your self

What is the cost for PC3000 and/or Salvation data? I am afraid the recovery company will charge arm and a leg (and than some)...

- AFF Repair Station said their software will not work since firmware area appears to be damaged (or internal disk problem).

- HDD Repair 2.0 appears only to support Maxtor 541DX (I have diamondmax VL 40 - 33073H3 model number)

- PC3000, Salvation and HRT are too expensive for just one drive as Spildit said.

- Any other ideas (Amardir and Spildit are willing to help but too far from the USA)?

I suggest you buy one HDD tool for your Maxtor. For Example, our new windows version --HD Doctor For Maxtor~ :D

All - The private message by Starling did not solve the problem.

Amarbir - please check your private message.

rameez - are you saying that HDD repair 2.0 should work on my 33073H3 (maxtor 30GB) hard drive? I am willing to try it but I thought it will not work since HDD Repair 2.0 said that it only support 541DX. Let me know.

Thanks.
