My current laptop(dell Inspirion) no longer turns on but I am receiving a replacement soon. However I need to transfer the contents of the hard drive from the current laptop into the new hard drive of the replacement. How can I do this when the old laptop no longer turns on? I know that I can just unscrew the hard drive and place it into the replacement laptop but is there any other way of doing this? Please let me know. Thanks in advance for your help.

If you are interested in why the laptop no longer turns on.....
The problem started when the LCD panel became unhinged on the left side from loose screws. The laptop worked despite the unhinged panel for a couple of days but then wouldn't turn back on again . I assume that this is due to the increased pressure or strain towards the cable that connects the LCD to the laptop due to its awkward and misplaced position. The hard drive I believe is fine. I have tried attaching an external monitor to the laptop but it still has failed to switch on.

Buy a cheap USB caddy for the drive.

Then simply plug into your new laptop and copy data across.

Data recovery companies would love to get your hands on this "easy" job, but as pcimage says; just pop down to an electronics shop or reputable online/retail computer outlet and get an external USB drive that supports 2.5" drives - check that your current drive is either SATA (Serial) or PATA (Parallel) though as you don't want to get the wrong adaptor.
