WD1200SD pcb board has a hole in the chip that says "smooth" on it. The drive doesn't spin up.

The model number on the pcb on the WD1200SD is 2060-701267-001. I was wondering if anyone knows if a pcb board from a WD1200JS drive will work on this one?

smoothy is not so smooth anymore... 8)

Thanks,
Dan.

Hi,
Sometimes It Can Also Take The Preamplifier Inside The MHA That Amplifies The Head Signals .So Even a Replacement With Another One Might Not Get Your Data Out .New Logic Card + New Head Assembly Will Sort This Out 100%

:good:

Hi,

In first turn I would not touch preamp and the HDA at all, just try a board from the same model. It might be neccessary to replace the ROM ic (8pin) from the defective board to the good one to ensure compatibility.
If the drive produces clicking sounds after the board swap, well then probably preamp is gone too.

Hi Pepe,
I Would Also Like To Comment on The Fact That No Newbie Should Try Just Replacing The Smooth IC [ Possible Something Else Along With That Is Also Fried ] .Yes Replacing the Logic Card And The ROM IC Is More Appropriate .And No Comment On Your Observations On The Knocking Part Thats True ...
