HI hddgurus !

I killed my third 2.5" HDD with a "ST Lab Pocket Hard Disk Drive USB2.0 enclosure". It just dont give enough power from usb port to drive the HDD reliable. Now i have a clicking HITACHI travelstar HTS548040M9AT0. Can i fix somehow this issue ? PC3000 PCI is not an option ...

This is also a warning, to not to use cheap chinese usb enclosures...

You may use "cheap chinese usb enclosures" BUT you have to be sure for the minimum current you can ask from those things.
A 2,5 inch hdd needs usually 500mA and something over..
An USB port is theoretically able to give you the same 500mA, but there are a lot of motherboard manufacturers that don't respect this kind of "usb standard"!

To make it shorter, use always the external power supply or the second USB cable of the enclosure.

Did you hear the clicks on the same USB enclosure?

Have you tried the hdd on other Pc or notebook?

Today i tried on PC with with 3.5" to 2.5" IDE adapter, and with mhdd. After 6 clicks i get T0NF, and for every other command ERR+ABRT.

The disk was in perfect condition before i put it in the usb enclosure. After 2-3 days "Windows delayed write failed" appeared, and the next day started clicking.
