I have an IBM Thinkpad T42 with an HTS541080G9AT00 drive in it. I wanted to use fasterase command so I attempt to lock the drive using the pwd command. When I enter the password "test" or any other password it returns Fail.

What's going on here? Even if I set the user password in the BIOS for the HDD neither fasterase or unlock will not work with the "test" password.

Thank you for the reply atleast. I'm not concerned about setting, or erasing, any passwords right now. Basically all I was trying to say is that with this computers hard drive, and MHDD I couldn't use fasterase. Hope this makes sense in relation to my last post.

The issue here is that laptops usually prevent any password operations with the hard drive. Look for your BIOS settings if there is anything like "Freeze" with respect to HDD password system.
