Hi Gurus,
i bought a Hitachi Travelstar IC25N080ATMR04-0 80Gb 2.5" HDD from eBay to be used in my Xbox. I hooked it up to my normal computer and had HDDScan check it, no problems found. I then put it in my Xbox on a clear CD-Case (for insulation) to test whether it would be recognized. Now, upon powering up, the drive made really strange noises, like "wrrrrrrrr" with rising pitch, followed by a very loud *clack*. I immediatly powered down the Xbox, removed the drive and tried to test it on my normal pc again. But now the drive wont spin up anymore, it doesn't make any sound at all, and apart from recognizing that there is an IDE-Device attached, no info whatsoever is recieved from the drive, ie shown in the BIOS.
So i guess i fried the PCB, right? I have not removed the PCB yet, as i do not own a suitable torx-screwdriver, but that will be taken care of on monday. Nonetheless, there is a 4x2 pad-array on the PCB which could be a rs232 connector or similar. i do own a jtag/isp/rs323 adaptor for uC Projects and some good soldering tools, so maybe i could somehow (how?) hook to this port and try to find out more.
I hope someone can help me a little, since i'm a bloody newbie on hdd repairs

Thank You!
