Hi All,

Just wondering what experiences you have all have had with RAID-5 starting sector numbers.
I normally use Runtime.org's RAID reconstructor and it's xor test tool, but it's not always helpful.

90% of the broken RAID-5 cases i have done have had a starting sector of:
0
128
1024
1088
63
32
10.

File Scavenger has this information on it's help manual:
========================================
0 for all disks. (e.g. TekRam DC200)
0 for the first disk and 10 for the remaining disks (e.g. HighPoint, Rocket 100)
1024 for all disks (e.g. 3Ware)

Does anybody know of a list of what brands of controllers use a particular starting sector, like a popular default?

If not - can you share any unusual setups of starting sectors you have seen?

Thanks a lot.

Hi,

On the winhex forensic forum there is a post with different raid controllers and their settings.

I want to know of any starting sectors anybody has seen, i have seen 0,63, 32,128,1088,192,22500, 10 and a few others - just want a few more to add into the list of ones to try for next time get an unusual setup.

Look in the forum, but you need a forensic license to get access.
