 Post subject: Strange Seagate problem

Hi guys.
Got a 250Gb 7200.9 here, model ST3250824A.

Spins up Ok and comes DRDY, ID OK etc.

But wont read or image properly, continually makes a ticking (retrying) sound.

with the following in terminal..

It does this all of the time.

It will read sectors, but INCREDIBLY slowly, no good to anyone.

The only other odd thing I notice, it will let me do a surface verification (in universal or Seagate utility) normally (a little slow, and a few bad sectors, but nothing to worry too much about), with no nasty ticking sound!

Any ideas?

Try to image around it with DE first.
