Hello gurus,
on a Maxtor HDD the motor IC has smoked!
Thiese are the data of the dead HDD:

YAR41BW0 K,M,B,D
S/N: Y3594P8E
6Y 120 L0 03 26 11
Agere Ardent C8-C1
M6FYA
Y3594P8E FY03A

I have also these DiamondMax Plus 9, and I would like to know if I have the chance of a PCB swapping, without buying a new PCB.

Disk #1:
YAR41BW0 K,M,G,A
S/N: Y47J5A4E
6Y 160 P0 04 28 11
Agere Ardent C8-C1
M8FYB
Y47J5A4E FY04A

Disk #2:
YAR41BW0 K,G,G,A
S/N: Y466TAJE
6Y 160 P0 04 28 11
Agere Ardent C8-C1
M8FYB
Y466TAJE FY04A

I have also some DiamondMax 10 and 8, but I think they aren't good for PCB swapping!!!

Hi!

Any of those boards will match your burned board.

Best to migrate the EEPROM from your PCB to the donor to ensure compatibility.

Ok, thanks to all!
I will try the 2 PCB and I will inform you about the results. :)
Can you explain me what you said? Is the esternal flash ROM the chip where the firmware is stored? Where it should be located? In my case where the firmware is stored?
tnx

before you put new pcb on HDD
you must check that HDA is ok !!!

IF HDA is shorted the new pcb could be burnt also .....

Thank you gismon.
In my case, how can I check this with the multimeter?

:( :? RESULTS! :( :?
I have checked and my HDA should be ok. Pin 3 is a GND and pin 4 & 5 aren't 0 Ohm with GND.
So I have swapped the PCB with the first donor: the HDD spins-up but after 1-2 seconds I hear a noise like a vibration of the arm onto the case. I have immediately powered-off the HDD and I have restored the donor HDD with its PCB. It is still working!
Exactly the same is happened with the second donor HDD.
Any suggestion?
Is this a wrong matching or.....?
tnx guru!

Sounds like you have a head and/or preamp failure. :-(

Time to admit defeat and send to a pro.

Sorry, I have not understood. Anyway I don't want to make the donor controller unusable, trying it againon the dead hdd. Are you sure (100%) of the compatibility of the donor board with the dead hda?
Could be a wrong matching?
Tnx to all!
Carlo
