When connecting two new 1T Maxtor HD's to my computer, I incorrectly connected my older Maxtor drives to a power source of 19V 3.16A, believing I had the correct connector. Now, neither drive can be recognized by my Macintosh Powermac G5 Dual 2.0GHz system. The discs do not spin up and, on the OneTouch III Turbo 1T EDA-9MP4A6 (S/N 2CAD0XHP), both the power cord LED and panel light flash intermittently. On the 250 GB OneTouch II EB250G0060101 (S/N B6139LFH) the front panel light does not light up at all.

I am interested in knowing the possibility and likely cost of repair for the controller cards or their replacement in these drives. Maxtor does not offer either a physical repair service nor replacement parts.

Is there anyone in this forum who can provide this service, or who can recommend a technician?

Hi, have you try'd to take out the drive from the enclosure and put it in directly to your IDE/SATA port.
Sounds to me that your external enclosure is down becourse of the wrong current.
Hopefully your drive is still fine....

No! I didn't try that..., didn't know that could be done! Sounds like a good possibility as it WAS the wrong voltage that caused the failure. Thanx!

possible just the enclosure has taken the full damaged.
it should have a backup circuit to protect the drives.

but allso you might be looking at a damaged pc board or possible the preamp head has blown too.

i had some hard drives in that where in a enclosure
client connected the wrong power supply and bang it went.

opened the enclosure up hard drive allso got damaged.
burnt the ic motor chip total.


its hit and miss you might be lucky first time around
but when it happens again bye bye hard drive
