Ok I have a locked Seagate drive, I have the unlock password, but I am having trouble unlocking using MHDD with the UNLOCK command. It asks for 32sym, which I assume are 32 symbols? Whatever that means. But my unlock password is not working in hex but I am 100% sure it is correct. What should the format of the input password be?

Mhdd works with plain passwords. Just type it.

The password I have is in hexadecimal. It's impossible to type that as plain text.
Are you telling me that MHDD doesn't have any way of inputting generic unlock codes?

Why not convert your Hex to plain text?

Hi,

How can you lock the drive with untypable chars?
I mean what system is used for?

maybe you must use this system to unlock it again....

If thats the case then its time to get the old dos user guide out of the cupboard and study the character map. Characters have a recognizable code which can be inserted from the keyboard.

Yes, some code can be typed with the ALT + decimal value, but not all.
An other word, one try can't be bad anyway. :D

This is a hard disk that was used in a xbox that is currently dead. The xbox locks the hard disk with characters in the range 00 to 255. So for example typing in the character 08 which is possible using the ALT key, but this character is the backspace char so it deletes the previous character.

So I guess MHDD is useless for unlocking any disks that are locked with generic codes?

Yes, you have right.

In this case, you need to write own solution for this. :(
Or hack another xbox to use this drive, if it is possible, i am not sure....
You can't use MHDD for this way unlocking purpose.

It's a xbox... Mhdd is useless, you have to deal with the firmware and you need hw+sw tools to do it. With this kind of tools you can unlock instantly the drive or view/edit/reset master and user pwd.

I don't think you understand, the hdd in a xbox is just a normal hdd, you don't need any special firmware or hardware to unlock it.

Anyway I finally found a utility that works for inputting hex passwords at Xbox-Scene.com
