Perhaps other members will wait until the product is ACTUALLY released and they get real-world experience/feedback before they start blowing their trumpets and speculating?

A spec sheet is just that, a spec sheet. Most products look good on paper, they should do, otherwise the marketing department hasn't done their job!

Anyway, I think it's time we dropped this thread, I think I've made my point.

I am a bit disappointed by this thread, but I will try to provide some input...

First, no one can argue that Deepspar is already there and is in fact a good product while Atola Insight is in beta stage. DeepSpar and Insight are indeed different products as well.

There is a documented 30 MB/second limit because Atola Insight uses USB to transfer data (however, next generation of DiskSense will get that limitation sorted out).

I can absolutely understand someone's excitement about Atola Insight (and thanks by the way for your support, it means a lot to me!), but let's face it, we need to wait until the release comes out to make a fair comparison.

But, the most inportant words I would say here, can you make sure a official launch time for us?Everyoen here really wants know the real image, and can compare with the othere tools to know the detailed advantages.
Come one , guys.
I am waiting for its release.
:good:

I am looking forward to it too, but surely you dont 'need' experience on it? I dont believe it will instantly revive dead disks that cant already be recovered with other means?

How do you cope at the moment!

as I have mentioned I have it. Is is in early beta so the features are still limited. Don't expect it to do magic though! I would say I will never be able to do more than a complete set of other tools (PC3000 + Deepspar +..+..) but it will be compact and fast, and *should* be cheaper than the summed costs of the separate other tools. For me a big plus is "on site" services to special customers. I just take Atola + Laptop, and maybe return with a portable clean room, tools and donor. ("special" customers don't send disks out here)

I scan every disk that comes in (not that many as we are just launching sales efforts) on it without fail, save the FM when I can, and then "auto diagnose". As you can imagine though, with head problems, you don't get too far.

AFAIK, bar the speed issue that Dimitry mentions (USB) the imaging feature set should be as good as Deepspars. Release is not until november.

Master ,
I Belive that Its Fair To Compare Both The Products,As the Issue in Mind With the thread Initiator Was Imaging .Well If Your Product Does More then Just Imaging And Does the Work Perfect i will Not Mind the speed At all .Can You PM Me the Features and At What stage of Production has that come to ,will you Have Some Price Structure For Us Poor Mortals And HDDguru Members

Hi Dmitry,

Get the product to market before the world runs out of money.

no seriously, I think it is worthwhile to get the product right, just look
at aceYA, they always in semi beta even in the summer.

Success !

@ coffeebean

Although you joked about running out of money - its a realistic scenario.

I see less customers the last few days. My impression is customers wait having their
equipment repaired - or try to let it repair through the usual channels: friends (of friends), family member or neighbour....etc.

Out of a "beta price" of 5990.- new orders for Atola Insight will be charged for 6990.-
(1000.- higher) plus shipping costs, but will be shipped only starting in November.

Its just the question, whether such a big(ger) investion will pay itself in the situation as is.

I totally agree with Jinx that these two products are for quite different purposes.
If you are a professional you will compare products for disk imaging with products for disk imaging, and complete solutions for DR with complete solutions for DR. :D

I use PC-3000 with Data Extractor and happy about their product. They work for it for so long time anв all other products just appear, or even not appear (only marketing still :) ) I trust checked products and quality 8)

and about "on-site", they make portable now. I wait for its release!

I'm looking forward to independent reviews of the Atola and the Data Compass, but there is no magic bullet in this trade. Until then, I'll keep using my Deepspar units.

day by day technology will give us more efficiency, flexibility.
deepspar already paid as stated.
data compass started paying by "shadow disk technology"
Hope Atola will be 1 step ahead

My opinion is; CURRENTLY the Deepspar is the best Hard - disk - imaging solution I have used. I know it is used by many DR professionals and Computer Forensics engineers.

We currently have two units and they are both run flat out every day. Again, there are no magic bullets, but the deepspar is well worth the investment.

If there is anyone else here that uses Deepspar please add your comments - I would be interested in other peoples opinions.

The fact it is widely used does not mean it is the best, for me. I still prefer my custom solution - applicable only because I have the necessary time, maybe. Anyone has developed any custom solution for comparing/discuss? PM ME.

What does your custom solution do better?

At present it works: imaging (copy drive to another one, disable relocation and smart, reverse copy etc.) no GUI, no windows, very simple. The difference is the cost.

What I said was
Quote:

I had a custom solution before I had the deepspar, and I too was in denial as to how useful the tool would be, until I saw one being used. I still use my own software/hardware config when my deepspar units are in use on other jobs. ;)

For those (like me) who dont have knowledge and time to build their own tools
the only solution is to buy them (if available).

I am very new to the DR market and by coincidence got with my first tool (Ninja F)
one of the best (for that time and for what I looked for) - but most probably because I took my time (6 months) to decide. Infact this tool led me into the direction of DR. Now I have also the Deepspar Disk Imager, the DataCompass and finally the Atola Insight should arrive within the next two days in the office.

According to my experience the last weeks none of the units is "the best". Each one
has pros and cons.
Where Ninja hangs sometimes during cloning, Deepspar does the better job, but it takes its (extreme) time. Both are perfect to create complete images.
To extract exact defined data I would first go on with DataCompass - it did already a very good job.

Finally I dont want to miss one of them. Good tools are worth the money spent....

I expect Atola Insight to be a tool combining some of the features of the other tools
plus some more. 8) Has to be - for that extra ordinary high price its a must.

The battle just begun:
1) It will be a battle / competition on the user interface to gain a higher market share
and
2) to define standards in measuring - although I find this somehow crazy....

1.
There are thousands of small computer repair shops around the globe whiche could offer
the better service to clearify whether the data is still safe or not, whether the hdd is still
save or not - and offer the apropriate service (cloning if necessary).

This is not the sophisticated work of high end DR specialists, but for a market "in advance".
Its not the high end and high mony market per case, but a mass market.

Those companies who are able to offer the tools easy to use will make high profits. I do see
Data Compass as first unit to enter this market. Not surprising that its a chineese company.
The next one is Atola Insight - but with the high price (and still in beta status) not yet
comparable (in different aspects).

The "older" systems rely on DOS - although technically outstanding PC3K or Deepspar DI
they are directed to tecchies. The left "grannys" who know about DOS and its commands....
(I am one of them - but no tecchie).
To be clear: Both products are outstanding, but PC3K ist only for technician with profound
knowlege and the Deepspar DI - easy to operate with - is outside of Windows (perhaps the
technically better solution not to operate within such an OS).
***

2.
Standards:
The computer gives a SMART error
Tool A stops immediately stating: SMART error
Tool C declares in a combined test: No errors found

Going deeper into the (new) tool C the SMART test shows errors with same drive
Or a media scan shows several defects on the media starting after 33%

I do expect the question about the used parameters. Its not an issue of paramters but
of default values used (as a non tecchie) - what I name or see as standard (values).
Furthermore: Those companies whith the better manuals will make more business. I
learn a lot from good manuals.

For the profs: When will a sector be reallocated?
I have a drive which produces a SMART error at starting the PC
The same drive will not be tested from a tool because of SMART error.
I start a media scan (different tool) and one media error was reported.
I start the reallocation test and no reallocation was made.
I define the range of the error and run it again - no reallocation made.
I start MHDD - no SMART error shown, no media error shown

May (I) one ask for measuring standards?
Nevertheless its our or our customers data.
