I got a seagate ST3160828AS 160gb v8.04 drive that I got from a repair. When I connect it to my computer it does not detect and freezes windows unless I unplug it. The drive spins up fine and doesn't make any funny sounds so I know the mechanics are still good. When I connected it to a USB-> sata it read but I haven't been able to get it to pick up in the actual bios. I don't have the USB to sata adapter right now and I don't know if it will even work anymore. Is there a way to reset or find out the problem with this drive. MHDD reports its state as constantly busy and I can't give it any commands or even see its identity information.

Hi,

Post here the terminal log of this drive.
You can find out in other postings how to do this.

So I have to make a serial cable for the hard drive. Another post said rx/tx was the 2 pins closest to the serial connector. Any way to not need the max232 or any other cables I can scavenge to read out the log.

Ok this drive is detected and works very well over usb 2.0. Why can't I get it to detect on my onboard sata.
